  PE Foam Just Got Friendlier

  Nomaco Engineered Foam Solutions (EFS), the industry leader in custom polyethylene foam profile extrusions, has recently introduced NOMAGREEN^TM, the first biodegradable polyethylene foam in the market. NOMAGREEN is a proprietary formulation which is unique to the market because it combines the excellent performance of standard PE foam with the added value of biodegradability once the product is discarded into microbe-rich environment, such as a landfill. No longer will companies have to sacrifice performance over environmental friendliness when choosing a packaging material. Furthermore, and most importantly, NOMAGREEN performs exactly like standard PE foam. Also, cushion curve testing has shown it has no performance loss when compared with standard PE foam. NOMAGREEN has an indefinite shelf-life and it is not affected negatively by moisture, heat, light or mechanical stress.  The biodegradation process is initiated by microbes that are only found in landfills; therefore no biodegradation will occur until the foam is placed in that environment. Independent laboratory testing has also shown that NOMAGREEN biodegrades at a rate significantly faster than standard PE foam. As with standard PE foam, NOMAGREEN remains recyclable and reusable. 

  The NOMAGREEN technology was developed to help address the large amounts of packaging waste that ends up in landfills each year. NOMAGREEN also provides a more environmentally friendly option for Fabricators when dealing with scrap foam that does not get recycled. With NOMAGREEN, Fabricators can now differentiate themselves when working with large OEM companies looking for suppliers whose processes and products are more environmentally responsible. The trend towards sustainability will only get stronger as the public and new regulations will increase the demand for more environmentally friendly products. Companies that are able to offer more sustainable packaging solutions will be well positioned to meet this demand.

  NOMAGREEN is currently offered as part of Nomaco EFS plank product line in densities between 1.0 and 2.2 PCF. With their Net Yield^TM Technology, Nomaco EFS can maximize material yield for Fabricators through customized plank configurations outside of the 4’x9’ industry standard size. The NOMAGREEN formulation can also be incorporated into edge protection profiles, custom packaging solutions, OEM components or any of the other profile extrusions Nomaco EFS produces.
